New Website

Recently, I revised my website and added a new series of images that I call "Snapshots From Away". This is a series of Holga snapshots taken over the past few summers in my summer home of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Check it out if you have a spare moment. More new series (and revisions of existing series) coming soon.

Dear ____,
I believe that the Department of Tourism publishes the tourist guide every April or so. You should check it out. There's some really nice color photos in it.
Cheers,

el Hype Magazine

Habla español? (Or perhaps it's easier to just use Google translate if you don't speak spanish).
The talented toy camera photographer Jose Manuel Madrona wrote a series of articles for the spanish magazine "el Hype" recently.  This is the latest article and I am honored to be mentioned in such great company. Thanks Jose. And thanks for using a photo of my dog Jack. It's a favorite of mine.
You can read the article here. An earlier article on toy cameras can be found here.

Somerville Toy Camera Festival Panel Discussion

A few days ago, I was part of a panel discussion at the Brickbottom Gallery in Somerville, MA which was part of this year's Somerville Toy Camera Festival. You can read about the discussion here on Elin Spring's highly recommended photography blog titled "What Will You Remember?"
It was a pleasure speaking about plastic camera photography with fellow panel members, Meg Birnbaum, Bill Franson and Elizabeth Ellenwood. Do yourself a favor and check out their wonderful work. BTW, if you're in the area, you can still check out the Somerville Toy Camera Festival for the next few days at five(!) different Somerville locations.

Here is a recent newspaper article about the exhibit.

Somerville Toy Camera Festival

The Somerville Toy Camera Festival is a month long event that celebrates the quirkiness and beauty of images made with plastic cameras (and pinhole cameras as well). The festival incorporates five galleries, a workshop and a panel discussion. You can read about the whole thing here.
I will be participating in the festival this year by exhibiting my image, "The Snow at Night", and as a participant on the panel discussion later this month. More info on the panel discussion can be found here.
If you're in the area (and I'm lucky to live close by) check out some wonderfully unique and creative photography, or get yourself a free ticket for the panel discussion and listen to some otherwise relatively sane people explain why they choose to make art with plastic cameras.

Plastic Fantastic V Show

I've got some show news to report so I'll start with this one. Happy to report that this image, "Before Spring", will be in the upcoming Plastic Fantastic V show at LightBox Photographic Gallery in Astoria, OR. This image was taken with a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash camera with a flipped lens and fifty year expired "Rex" film. (Rex was the house brand film carried by Rexall drugstores for many years and was made in Belgium by Agfa Gevaert). The print is an alcohol gel ink transfer to paper. The process seems to work particularly well for this image. The Plastic Fantastic show will run from June 14 through July 7. Susan Burnstine was the juror for this year's show, as she has been for the past couple of years.  I'm particularly proud that I have participated in this show for each of it's five years.

More "hybrid" camera fun. This is an Agfa Click II camera with a lens from a Diana camera clone called a "Leader". FYI, the lens is not flipped. It's just really bad.
