Unnatural Surroundings: The American Southwest
"Unnatural Surroundings:The American Southwest" is a series of vernacular Holga images that I made on two trips to the southwest in the past year and a half. There's horses, hands, lots of signs and maybe even one landscape.
Now live on the website.

Nights at the PRC
I'll be showing (and talking about) some of my plastic camera images this Wednesday evening at the Photographic Resources Center at Boston University as part of their "Nights at the PRC" program and also in collaboration with the ongoing Somerville Toy Camera Festival. The PRC is located at 832 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston and the program will run from six thirty to eight thirty pm. As many as four other photographers who use plastic or pinhole cameras will also be presenting their work that night. PRC "Nights" are open to the general public as well as PRC members, so if you're in the Boston area, please feel free to attend.

2016 Somerville Toy Camera Festival
Two of my images will be in the upcoming 2016 Somerville Toy Camera Festival which opens in three galleries this weekend. My images, "Around the Bend" and "Black Horse", were selected by juror Christopher James and will be at the Washington Street Art Center in (where else) Somerville. The opening for the Washington Street show is Saturday, September 10 from 7-9 pm. Regular gallery hours after the opening are Saturdays 12-4pm.
The images were created with a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera with a reversed lens. Extremely expired film was used (about fifty years out of date) for both of these images. "Around the Bend" is a pigment ink print and "Black Horse" is an acrylic transfer to aluminum with a high gloss epoxy coating.
If you're in the Boston area this weekend, please check out the show. There are around 120 images in three galleries so there's lots to see.

Imaginary Landscapes of the American Southwest
Somewhere in the American southwest recesses of my mind. When you're standing on top of Muley Point in southern Utah and looking at both Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley spread out in front of you, it looks something like this, I think.
Camera? None.

Tripping the Light Fantastic Show
I am happy to say that my image, "Little People #7", will be included in the first international juried photo exhibition at the Cotuit Center for the Arts in Cotuit, MA, located on Cape Cod.
The juror for the show was Rowland Scherman, a Cape Cod resident who took many iconic photos during the 1960's. Many people are familiar with his grammy award winning cover image of Bob Dylan on Dylan's 1968 Greatest Hits album.
The show opens on July 23 and runs through August 28.
The list of artists participating in the show is here.

Three Sisters (Twice)
An early evening ride in Monument Valley. The top image was shot with a Herbert George Stylex camera with DandiPan film expired in 1968.
The bottom image was made with a Holga. I sort of like them both. I am trying to get out of the habit of taking the same shot with different cameras. It's not working.

A back road off of "the High Road". Is it a road or is it a driveway?
The houses all appear to be empty.
The only sound is the poorly secured metal roofs rattling in the incessant wind.

Plastic Fantastic VII Show
Two of my images will be in the upcoming Plastic Fantastic VII show at the LightBox Photographic Gallery in Astoria, Oregon.
The images are "Italian Garden #22" (the one with the hands) and "Man of the Sea". "Italian Garden #22" was made with a Holga camera and "Man of the Sea" is a double-exposed selfie(!) made with a Diana clone camera known as a Traceflex.
Susan Burnstine is the annual juror for this show which will open on June 11 and run through July 6.
I am honored that this is my seventh consecutive year in this show which is always a favorite of mine.
